Description: Salinity is a fundamental environmental parameter that structures estuarine ecosystems. Salinity was measured along surface water transects and in depth profiles in each of the 5 major Georgia Rivers (Savannah, Ogeechee, Altamaha, Satilla, and St. Marys Rivers) and in 8 salt marsh estuaries (Wilmington River, Little Ogeechee/Forest River, Medway, South Newport, Sapelo, Turtle/Brunswick, Crooked Rivers and White Oak Creek) to examine the salinity spatial distribution during high discharge (winter) and low discharge (summer) periods. Surveys in the major rivers were conducted four times, twice at high and low discharge, wheras salt marsh estuaries were only sampled once at high and low discharge. the Georgia Coastal Management Porgram funded this work to enhance proactively plan for wetlands transition and migration with ongoing sea level rise.
